The Women's Bureau was created by congress in 1920, the same year women were granted the right to vote. It is the only federal agency exclusively mandated to serve and promote the interests of working women.

It has been 90 years since the creation of the Women's Bureau, the only agency in the Federal government mandated to serve and promote the interest of working women. We have made much progress, and we acknowledge that we did not do it alone.

In celebration of our 90th anniversary, Region III Women's Bureau will host a Women Working Together - Writing the Next Chapter of HerStory! event that will feature prominent women leaders in Philadelphia. The event takes place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 25, 2011. This event will bring together woman leaders to reflect on the challenges Philadelphia working women have had in the past, and to discuss our present areas of concern, and build hope for our future.

The U.S Department of Labor Women's Bureau is committed to honoring the legacy of accomplished women and encouraging more intergenerational dialogue and mentorship. Invited Speakers include:

  •  Sara Manzano-Díaz, Director of the U.S Department of Labor Women's Bureau
  • Elva Bankins, Executive Vice President Corporate Services for OI Partners
  • Gennifer Brooke Miller, Founder of Healthy Textures LLC
  • Helen Gym,  Founder of Parents United for Public Education
  • Marjorie Margolies, CEO, Women’s Campaign International Former Member of Congress
  • Stephanie Gambone, Vice President, Business Partnerships for the Philadelphia Youth Network
  • Lydia Hernández Vėlez, Deputy Managing Director for Aging City of Philadelphia
  • Amaris Hernandez, Vice President of the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women
  • Vicki Curtis, Disabled Veterans Outreach Specialist for the Pennsylvania Department of  Labor

Let the mentoring process begin!
